C Man, I bought one in Germany when I was in the service there in 1966. Shipped a Winchester 101 20 ga., first year made, home in it. Mine opens at both ends, the one end being smaller for the barrels and forend and the other for the stock. Mine is tan. Think I paid $35.00 for it in the Rod and Gun Club on post. The fellow that ran it was a retired Sargent Major and he got very good deals. I got the Winchester for $166.85, had to wait for 4 other guys to put the order in. One of the best deals I could have had was a Browning Supperposed in 12 ga with 20, 28, and .410 barrels in a case for $500.00, but that was like $5,00.00 to me.
I believe that your case does have value compared to some of the junk that is out there and the money they want for it.
