Your reasons aside, it would be helpful to know what material you are cutting (steel, anodized aluminum?) I think some of the early full length tubes were all aluminum from ahead of the chamber on to the choke area and were hard anodized. Hard anodize is harder than hardchrome and will tear a reamer up and take a lot to polish out. If the ends are like the current Briley's, they may be made of 17-4 ph which is very tough but cuttable.
