Soon I’ll have my barreled action (Ruger 77 mk II, 6mm Rem) inlet into a pattern stock, and I’ll start experimenting with fit. When I have the fit just right, I’ll have the pattern stock duplicated into a nice piece of walnut. I feel fairly confident with the forearm shape/length, shape of the pistol grip, comb height, etc., but I know I will need to experiment a lot with castoff and camber. What is the best way to do this? Should I just add and subtract Bondo and wood? Should I attempt stock bending? (My gunsmith said do that outside or my wife will curse the smell and me!). Maybe I should rig some kind of knuckle joint like this (https://shootingsportsman.com/another-try-at-a-try-gun/)? I welcome advice and input from others who have experience with this.
