.. Eine "Wippen"-Purdey ..
The German magazine DWJ had in the eary 1970's
several articles on English gunmakers and one on English gunlocks.
The gunlock-article showed a drawing of a Purdey lock different to the
typical arrangement of the internals.
Usually the interlocking safety sear blocks the tumbler.
(In German: Fangstangen-Purdey)
With the shown lock the interlocking element has been a
seesaw-part-alike (in German: Wippe/Balancier) blocking the
sear but NOT the tumbler.
For decades I have never seen such a lock until it emerged
recently. A German gunmaker told me he has on at hand
and has kindly provided me a photo.
So here is a photo of the internals of a "Wippen"-Purdey-lock.
I understand that Purdey used this type of lock in the
1960's/1970's but finally abandoned it.
