From the IGC database, John Wiggin began as a gun maker in 1828 at 26 Whittall Street, Birmingham. By 1836 he had changed the spelling of his name to Wiggan, and in 1859 his nephew Henry Elliot joined the firm, which was renamed Wiggan & Elliot, moving to 25 Whittall Street. The firm seems to have closed in 1888.

Volume 3 of Nigel Brown's book British Gunsmiths has some serial number/year information, though it is very general.
