Perhaps most of you already know of GPS software for your cell phone, but if you don't, it is one slick trick. You can find out instantly, whose ground you are standing on, where the boundaries are, and all on a system that totally overwhelms the functionality of a dedicated GPS. I am using OnX maps, and they are amazing, including aerial photos that show holes in the cattails, channels to get to them, and a sorts of things you may not have considered even needing before.

The big game folks out west are all over this, but it works just dandy for bird hunting anywhere.

And, no, you do NOT need cell tower coverage to use in the field. In fact, you probably don't even want to use cell coverage.
