For all but Africa's biggest and most dangerous game, I'll propose a nice .35 Whelen, which could still be used for elk and bear in N. America (of course the .375 H&H could likewise be loaded up or down, depending on the critter). Going down from there? Nothing is much more "classic" than the 7x57 (and a great deer gun stateside), while a classic in a larger caliber would be a .416 Rigby. Happy hunting. TT
