Dave, your points are valid. I can't speak for other than myself but if I were fighting for my professional life I wouldn't write such a cloying, touchy-feely letter. It weakened him. The woodshed, bifocal and blinder touches don't cut it when you've defecated on a bunch of heads. For a writer of national following, it's very peculiar. Mr. Zumbo was either an amiable good ole boy all along, not given to critical thinking, or a man in trouble. I prefer to think the latter but reserve judgment.
