D.C. Martin and a Mr. White were working cattle down below Aliceville, Alabama in the mid 1970's. A large (8 pt) deer ran across the pasture and they decided to rope it. (They were both accomplished ropers and had some rodeo experience in their younger days.) They managed to head and heel the deer and load it into a goose neck trailer to take it to town and show it off to all the hunters. The deer broke his neck and died before they got to town. The deer was mounted with a brass plaque that said "Roped by D.C. Martin."
