Hi Mr. cody ------ These old dbl's are usually pretty durned hard ! I would suggest you have the piece annealed "Slowly" & not removed from furnace until cool enough to handle with bare hands. It is now at a state that will allow you to easily draw file if needed and polish to 400 wet or dry grit paper finish. This is the finish I prefer to work on & polish with finer grit as the engraving proceeds. I will be happy to go over this with you if you care to call me (921-221-5288 EST). FWIW, Ken
