The new Shooting Sportsman has two interesting(to me) articles this issue. One is "laying on of hands, by Michael Mc and the other is in defense of the .410, by Tom Roster. Well done.

Jim,
I'd like to read that 410 article. Can SSM be bought over the counter at a bookstore?

I think I have seen SSM at Border's and Barnes & Noble. I liked both of those articles.

Handloader in the previous issue has an article on 28 gauge by John Barsness that talks about his use of 28 gauge for about all of his upland shooting for a hunting season.

I think so. I'm sure I found my first one at a good bookstore.
Thanks

I recall that article by John on the 28ga. It was "In My opinion one of the best I have read on the gauge. He didn't go into any magic, mystique, square laods or even short shot strings. He simply pointed out what the 28 is capable of doing with proper loads & shot size selections. One point he did make which was well taken is that generally speaking "Promo" loads for the discount stores are not available in 28ga, so if one shoots factory 38's he shoots "Premium" loads. In the end though I could not help thinking had he used a 20ga with equivelent loads it could have served his purposes with "Just a Little" to spare. If then one is faced with situations which do not call for 40+ yd shots but most within 30 you always have the "Option" of the promo's & for those uses they have always served me well. I have simply never had the experience some seem to have of them being such "Erratic" killers on game in the 20-35 yd range.

MM's article on hand and finger placement/techniques is very good; Roster's thoughts on the .410 are simply outstanding, IMHO.

There was a very popular and rather heated thread regarding the .410 on the other SxS BB about 8 weeks ago. It's really a shame this article wasn't available to pull quotes from back then.
