While visiting a large gun retailer up here in New England the other day I noticed an open box on the counter with 12 or 15 very large brass straight-wall cartridges (with lead bullets) of two different calibres, both bearing the headstamp "Walter Locke". The smaller of the two calibres were 8 bore shells with somewhat conical bullet heads: price $38.oo each. Of the larger shells, which were 4 bore, some had conical-head bullets and others with hemispherical heads (round ball?), each type costing $85.00 each! All the cartridges appeared to be of recent manufacture.
Could these figures possibly reflect realistic current prices for these types of shells or do shells of this manufacturer in particular demand these seemingly extraordinary prices?
