I ran into a guy that was hunting with a double that was a 30-06 cal.and haven't seen one since. Now that I found this site I was hoping some one might be able to tell me where to find double rifles for sale and what my chances are to find one in either 308 or 30-06.
thank's

If it was an over/under it might have been the Biakal/Remmy/EAA one. It comes in 308 and 06.

AkMike1:
Thanks for reminding me that there are O/Us as I had blinders on and could only think of SxS and I've been shooting a hammer O/U the past few days. I questioned a few collectors today and they noted Browning and Winchester as having an O/U double in 30-06 or .308 or both. For some reason I keep seeing a visual of a Tikka, or a Finnish gun, with multi-tube sets of which one was a 30-06.
Kind Regards,
Raimey rse

Raimey, You are also correct about some of the other O/Us. There are alot of makers still out there. But I also prefer a nice SXS DR. Mike

I used "volk" grade sxs Merkel loaner once chambered for 7,62x63. They must have made good number of them. These can be found for < dinero then somethin' chambered for 'R' cartridge. Guess some loco folks like extra extraction surface for added reliablity. Ya know, just in case that pesky whitetail charges!

Remington currently produces the SPR-220 as a side by side in 30-06. Rumor has it they will do it in 45-70 next. You can buy these guns in 30-06 on gunbroker.com for about $1000.00. They are made in Turkey for Remington

Has anyone actually seen one of these? I checked the Rem site and they are not listed.

There are a number of them (sxs in 06) at gunbroker, etc. I bought mine at Lewis Arms in Bow,NH in Dec; he currently has 3 for sale under $900. Finally shot mine for the first time last week. After burning through 2 boxes of shells to regulate, with scope (my first BB gun had better sights than this thing)my last group was L dead bull, R inch to right on same line at 50. Triggers suck, so yet to be determined what it going to do at 100 or beyond. Not a piece of art, but fun! Rick

I have been thinking about getting one of these Rem imports (if under $1K) and have a good smith "tune it up" right out of the box. I like iron sights in thick brush so I might even have the sight changed. The question for me is if the action strong enough to withstand a few years of 30-06 use .... or is it just a so so shotgun action.

I have two Baikal/EEA O&U's in 30-06 and one Remington/Baikal in 30-06. I modified the one O&U with a floating rib and left one stock. Pics of my guns are at http://www.lvstrings.com/bayonet/dr's.jpg

I removed the front site block/shroud by removing the one pin. Then I slid the rib between the barrels and reinstalled the block. I have to take them all out and shoot them now. I must say that the O&Us have nicer wood than the Remington, but all are nice for the money Three double rifles for $1500.00. Finding good scope rings for the 11mm rib is another story. The low rings that I got for the Remington from Germany are really sweet.

Years back I had a Westley Richards boxlock ejector in .30'06, had a huge Zeiss Zeilacht 8x on it, very accurate despite a shot out throat in the right barrel. Would put six shots, three from each barrel, into 2.5" at 100 yards.

Remington has dropped the SXS double rifle (made by Baikal in Russia) from there line. EAA in Florida continues to import them.

Gopher: Consider a Valmet/Tikka o/u combo, available as double rifles or rifle/shotgun; I have a Valmet 12/.308 set that does very well. The barrels have DIY screw adjustments for elevation and windage. Russ Gould at http://doublegunhq.com/ is listing several Valmets right now, including a Valmet 412 that could be set up with your choice of rifle barrels. Scope mounts are available too.
