How would you remove .003 from a .005 choke in a full length skeet tube? Solid reamers are not sold in the required sizes and I don't want to pay Briley more than the tubes are worth.

IMO that's too little to do with a reamer. I'd try emery paper in a slotted dowel and go slowly, checking frequently. For a professional job, Mike Orlen would likely charge much less than Briley and do the job as well, or better. Probably a lot quicker, too.

That would be hard to find statistically on the pattern board.

Also, a "brake hone" would do it. I wouldn't try for a full taper/conical profile. Rather, I'd go for a conical constriction and a following parallel.

What do you believe 3/1000ths difference in constriction will do for you? Does the .005 choke provide poor patterns? Will removing 3/1000ths make a difference? In sporting if you don't change constriction by at least 10/1000ths, why bother. If you really want to open up, why don't you just purchase a new tube.

Bill,
Your reasons aside, it would be helpful to know what material you are cutting (steel, anodized aluminum?) I think some of the early full length tubes were all aluminum from ahead of the chamber on to the choke area and were hard anodized. Hard anodize is harder than hardchrome and will tear a reamer up and take a lot to polish out. If the ends are like the current Briley's, they may be made of 17-4 ph which is very tough but cuttable.

Bill,
Chuck H is quite right...your reasons are not my concern and it's not my place to question them. Hope you can make the required changes with the advice of others here and with a minimum of expense.
You have my apologies for questioning the need.

A.002 choke at skeet range in 20 gauge gives the most perfect skeet pattern I have ever seen,a 40 inch circle that has no holes. At my age I need that size pattern, I also have a set in 28 guage that is almost as good but it can get thin if you ride an outgoing target. These tubes have.010 in the 410. If you are a AAA shooter they will work for you and you can work on people head as the target smoke but a "B" shooter needs less smoke and more pieces thus I need to move them to .004 or .005 choke. As someone guessed they are an older set with a lot of life so why spend 1500 for new ones,IF the chokes can be fixed?
