My brother just called and described a double gun to me and asked if I had any idea as to its value. He described it as a Belgian (stamped on the sideplate) 12 bore, l'royal (sp?) Damascus, ornate ingraving with some gold inlay. On the side of the piece is stamped T.Barker. I told him to tell his friend who had asked that it was anyone's guess as to its value, but that I would toss out the apparent name of the maker, (T.Barker) to this forum and see if anyone has any knowledge of this maker. Anyone familiar with this name? What say ye?

I may not be in the league that you are looking for, but, here is what I know.
Sear and Roebuck imported these guns back near the beginning of the 1900s. They were several steps above JABCs.
Now----there were some JABCs that were also marked T. Barker.
I would think the inlays and engraving preclude this gun's being one of the fraudulent ones.
Hope this helps.
Best,
John

From the 1902 Sears Roebuck & Co. catalog

Not a quality gun BUT I'd be most interested in knowing if there are any letter stamps on the damascus barrels just forward of the brl. flats. A 'P' or 'HP'? Thanks!

It is almost certainly a gun made in Belgium.

Charles Dewandre registered "Royal" as a trade mark in 1926.
Pieper used "Royal Gun Works" for a much longer time frame.

As John has stated T. Barker is usually associated with cheaper guns imported by Sears. I have seen Lucient Clement and Lambert Dumoulin trade marks on barrel flats of T. Barker guns.

Some pictures would help to provide more information. Especially of any marks on the barrel flats, receiver or barrels. It could be just a cheap gun made for import or perhaps something altogether different. I have never seen a T. Barker with "ornate engraving" and "gold inlay".

Depending on what "some gold inlay" is, it could be unusual.
