Raimey a 9.3x72 fits nicely. Nothing engaved on the sights. Yes it is a screw to hold the sides of the stock at the head together.

Not yet. I am waiting for my Sharps to come back from the smith. Then I can take the .577, 45-120 and the 9.3x72R all at the same time.

At least it's warm enough to shoot. I can wait and shoot between snow showers.

Off on a tangent, would anyone know who stamped their cartridges in this caliber (360-8x57) with an "N"?

TIA:

If it is on the cartridge, it is could be for "Normal" like 9.3X71 Normal although it is not the same as 360 2 1/4" Express - 9.3X57.4R. DWM 292 is a 9.4X57.5R Musket, so the "N" might be an abbreviation for something similar. Are the cartridges current production or are they reformed cases with a parent headstamp? Could you post a pic?

A Model 88 would have a stamp of "8mm/57"(7,99 or 7,8mm) & "crown over N" for Nitro.

By the way, I probably need to add that the 9.3X71 Normal was an attempt(one of the 1st for German cartridges) to standardize the oh so many variations of the 9.3X72 sometime after 1912.

Kind Regards,

Raimey

Nickled rimmed cartridge case and flat nosed jacketed soft point bullet.

Headstamped "N" at 12 o'clock, with "360-8X57" from 8 to 4 o'clock.

By the looks of it, not a recent loading. I'll try to get hi-res photos when I'm home again.
