I spent an enjoyable afternoon with a friend over at Aurora Sportsman’s Club (IL) last weekend. The primary reason for the visit was to check on the Fauneta’s regulation prior to next weeks bear hunt. I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story….great day Joe. Thanks again.

Rangefinder put the target at 51 yds. We used the 100 yds leaf sight with replacement dayglow front sight (created by John Millar). Seventy degrees with no breeze. The black circle is 2" in diameter. That's a 425 gr. bullet moving 1500fps and generating 10,000 psi.

Also, that's three different shooters on paper. I'd say we're spot on for 100 yds.

Land: 3R/3L
Joe Z.: 2R/2L
Linas J.: 1R/1L

The target lies within.

I'll be north of Armstrong, Ontario. I've never been bear hunting. We'll see how it goes...

Good luck with your Bear! I've hunted Black bear, and brown bear as well, and there is one thing to remember! No matter how hard he hits the ground at your shot, hit him again quickly, before he can shluff off the effects of the first shot. Reload quickly and watch him for several minutes before you take your eyes off him, and be ready to pop him with two more. Bear have a bad habit of getting up, and takeing to the hills. Blood trails are almost non-existant, and good bear woods are not conducive to tracking, unless you have snow. Some one in most camps always looses a bear, that got into the weeds before dieing.

Good luck, and post a report when you get back!

Can you please tell us more about the loads?

Cast lead? or lathe turned Fauneta type?

Powder? Wads...etc...

Well it was a two day drive to camp which was located 100 km north of Armstrong, Ontario, four hours north of Thunder Bay. He was a little bear, approximately 100 pounds. If it wasn't late in the week I would probably have let him enjoy his snack.

Fauneta performed flawlessly. Right barrel passed through lungs and heart, according to the guide. We'll try again next year.

The first set up (Monday through Wednesday) which didn't draw in any bear. The bait is a concoction of marsh-mellows, granola, syrup, fig newtons, apples and water.

Moved to this location Thursday, plenty of tracks and scat. Hunted from the ground. Here is my view of the bait.

He tipped the scale at 106 pounds. Guide said he was probably 1 1/2 y.o. I wish I had photos of the other bears brought into camp.

Great photos, Utah. Thanks for sharing. One rarely gets to see photos of the gear and digs in magazine articles, and especially not photographic evidence in support of that age-old question.....

Does a bear sh!t in the woods!

Well done!
