I know that Chuck H and I are in the same boat. We both have nice guns and then stoke them with only with Wallyworld's finest! Anybody else do the same? Or are we just cheapskates?

Friend just bought 35 flats of rusty new 20's at a distressed sporting goods store. Price was $2/box for 7/8 7.5 shot. They went straight when I tried them in my new K-20 Parcours! Now thats CHEAP! bill

Depends. Are you stuffing Wallyworld high pressure loads into hundred year old guns? That would be pound foolish. Are you using a brand new Rizzini or Purdy or some other masterpiece made strong as a bank vault. In that case, not pound foolish and the shells are plenty good. I recently heard a quote attributed to George Digweed that "every shell being manufactured is better than the best shooter." I shoot A LOT and I agree. All the shells I buy are better than I am, that's for sure. Regards, Jake

I used to load low pressure loads for my damascus guns and buy shells for my other (fluid steel) guns at WallyWorld (or wherever else had a good price on factory stuff). Then I realized that the factory stuff didn't shoot or kill any better than what I was loading for damascus, plus I had to be careful to keep them separate. Consequently, I just shoot my own low pressure stuff in everything now. Target scores haven't gone down and my success in the field hasn't deteriorated. In addition, my reloads are much more pleasant to shoot than most of the promo ammo available and I have enough components to last me for many years. I have a great enough selection of shot sizes that I am able to load many loads that are difficult, if not impossible to find in a store.

Inexpensive shells are not necessarily bad shells. The Federal promo loads Wally sells are, in fact, excellent shells. As are the Remington Sport Load shells.
The Winchester stuff, on the other hand, has issues. Something the consumer finds out easily enough shooting the first box. Is it worth $2.87 if the heads are corroded right out of the box, the smoke (of which there is quite a bit for a "smokeless" load) smells like sour milk, and pieces of shot wrapper rain down for five minutes after firing? The customer can be the judge.
I burned quite a few Federal Multi-Purpose shells last summer shooting trap and wobble trap - purchased at the local Wal-Mart. For the price, I can take 3Deq recoil.

Exactly, Jager... so take your pick.
I do still load, and load quite a bit. I make stuff I can't buy.
