Here is the reply to my query:

Hi Pete,

There is nothing at all, nothing but a serial #. I have found nothing at all in the blue book of gun values pertaining to THE UTICA FIRE ARMS CO..

We feel it is simply an American Guilded catalogue gun from the early 1900's.
It is very solid and well made--it certainly beats the hell out of any Lefever nitro special that I have ever seen. I would rate it's quality alongside a Fox Sterlingworth of it's era.

Thanks, Greg and Jeff BLANK

It does not look like any H&A sxs that I have seen, but that is not saying much.
There is something about the "squareness" of this gun that seems familiar.... Too bad, the Klunkmeister would have known..

The position of the screw on the side and the general shape of the receiver makes me think of the Forehand & Wadsworth/Forehand Arms Co. double that was later assembled and sold by H&A. Kind of looks like the Utica Fire Arms Co. gun didn't get the profiling to the receiver and forearm that this high grade Forehand got.

As I said earlier in this thread regarding the gun posted by James-l

The gun is interesting in that it could have Ethan Allen (American made) damascus or twist steel barrels. The Worcester and Norwich doubles have not been sorted out by the collectors yet, so how many collectors, if any, really know? That seller may be foolish to have not shown a photo of the barrel flats area...the barrels could be far more collectable than the gun (in the steel version shown above)

In other words...we know Allen was manufacturing mingled steel in Boston...he was even granted a patent for it...what we don't know, is what that steel looked like...Researcher's Forehand is another possible candidate for American made damastwist...as are all Allen trapdoor doubles (candidates)...the trapdoors are more likely, as they were being produced at the time the patent for damascus steel was issued to Allen ( US pat #48,249)
