I bought a 10 gage black powder muzzleloading shotgun at a flea market. It has the word "Williams" stamped/etched on the side of the face plate behind the hammers. It has a Damascus thin-twist barrel and on the bottom of the barrel are the proof marks. I am looking to restore the gun to original condition. I was told that it is a British gun. If anyone can help with any information or books on the gunsmith or age it would be greatly appreicated. Thank-you goldilox

Please post close-up photos of the proof marks on the bottom of the barrels. Other pictures showing the locks etc would be useful as well. I'll see what I can look up about the name when I get home from work, but without the proof marks the name alone might be misleading (a certain European country was notorious for using British manufacturers names on the their junk guns).

Photos will be posted next week. My brother has the camera and he is in Maine. Thank-you for the response. Leslie

According to Carders "SXS of the World for Y2K" there were two Williams shotgun makers, one, a Brit, apparently invented a top-lever break action mechanism. As usual I forgot to bring the Carder book to work with me so I can't go into anymore detail for now. I hope your able to post pictures this week.

BTW I have an old beat-up 9 gauge sxs muzzle loader that I've used to hunt pheasants. Some of these old guns can really fool you with the amount of life they have left in them.
