I am looking at a Pre 64 Super grade in 243. The barrel ahas been replaced and has R M Osbahr stamped on the barrel. Does anyone recognize this name? The gun is in overall nice condition but I know this really affects the value. Any thoughts on how much? Seller is asking $1500. It does have a M8 4 X SCOPE mounted on it.

In this case, google doesn't seem to be our friend.

Unfortunately no it doesn't. The gun was made in 1949 so it's not the original caliber since Winchester did not chamber the model until 1955 if I am reading the information correctly.

Well if it has the original sling and swivels, and the barrel channel hasn’t been opened up for the new barrel, you might be able to part it out for what you have in it (worse comes to worse). If you like it and it shoots well, you might be happy with it at that price. You might also be able to find a barrel for it.

Are there records to show what caliber it was originally? None that that I know of or can't think of. $1500 doesn't sound that far off if it is as Doc asks. And it is in good shape and bluing. Also check that serial number etched on the bolt, does it match the receiver sn#? Once in a while nice period winchester barrels come available in and basically they will screw right on and headspace correctly with little work. If the rifle is nice I would buy it.

There is a 270 barrel on eBay at the moment, I am not nor do I know the seller, just mentioning it.
