I ran across an interesting clip that TGS put on YouTube on Gallyon manufacturing process on a British Best. Titled "The pursuit of perfection inside a British gun making factory with Gallyon"

What was interesting to me was this company uses adhesives verses solder. Interesting watch if you have time 52 min.

I have watched it and enjoyed it.

These guns are priced way above my pay grade, but I didn't find anything strange about the use of adhesives. Adhesives have been used for years in many different applications from cars to airplanes and if I remember correctly some of the aftermarket vent ribs for Winchester model 12's & 21's were glued-on rather than soldered.

https://www.gallyon.com/barrels-detail

The only note that they use a “structural adhesive” used in F1 and aerospace applications.

Hi all,
I have blacked all of these Gallyon guns and they are a pleasure to work on, no leaks, no rosin seeping out. Bill blacker said they are the the best barrels he has seen in 48 years in the trade and I agree with him, I have spent time in their workshops and seen the building process these guys really are ahead of the game, these are formula 1 shotguns, if you get a chance to shoot one do it. And if you get a chance to buy one I would do that too.

It's nothing new. We were using epoxy on automotive, diesel truck and railroad engine alternator rotors and starter armatures back in the 1970s. I still use JB Weld regularly. Probably not much difference.

Excellent post above. Nothing else comes close to first hand information.

I have a 30 year old Flodman with adhesive-bonded barrels, they have not fallen apart.

I do not know this for a fact but wouldn't be surprised to learn that some of the newer Turkish offerings have adhesive bonded barrels and ribs.

For those of you more in the know what would be the advantage of using an adhesive? Would there be some sort of release agent that could be used to take the barrels apart for repair, if needed? I cannot imagine it would save a tremendous amount of money. Same prep time for the barrel set and some of these newest adhesives, such as Belzona, are astronomical in cost.

May God bless America and those who defend her.
