Any serial number records from this maker? I have a 12bore with a frame serial number 1XX. Luckily the barrel rib states "New barrels by Charles Osborne & Co. London" with a serial number 78XXX on the barrel loop.

I do not know if there are any records for Osborne, London serial number.

Vol 2 on Nigel Brown’s British Gunmakers p123 for a Charles Osborne, Birmingham, would put 78xxx between 1923 & 1925. That is if the 78xxx was the gun serial number. As for the 3 digit frame serial number not matching the barrels it appears to indicate a barrel replacement by Osborne, not necessarily a complete gun by them.

Is there a serial number on the forend ? If so what is it?

Are the barrels only engraved "New barrels by Charles Osborne & Co. London" or do they have an address? An address would help date the barrels as the London location moved a round a bit.

No there is no name on the frame. Also there is no address on the barrels. Just "New barrels by Charles Osborne & Co London". There is a name and patent number on the forearm iron but hard to make out.

This gun is a hammerless round action (like my Dickson) but with a underlever (snap action). I was curious if this gun is possibly pre-98. And that at sometime most likely had the damacus/twist barrels replaced.

Based on pictures and stampings my belief is it is an later anson patent use. The later Anson Deely patent was about 1882. The gun is not an A&D gun. I think it another early patent and the fact the patent use is stamped on it it is likely a pre 1898 gun as by then the patent use stamping would not be required. Then again the “BV” proofmark on the receiver is post 1904. When rebarrelled it may have been restamped at proofing.

The patent “CB” may indicate Charles Boswell, but I cannot find a reference for the CB stamping, or perhap Charle Bonehill

Appears to be “W ANSON PATENT” on the forend arm.
