I need guidance in determining Edwinson Green guns and London Sporting Park i.e. The Watts gun. Are any records available through email or online search? I've looked at DGBBS threads and find comments about records but no contact information. I am looking at a 1925 sidelock ejector that has the acanthus style engraving that has been attributed to Green guns - it is a London Sporting Park gun. Am I correct in believing that Green was a well respected provincial gunmaker?
Thanks for any help.

Edwinson Green were indeed well respected. They were based in Cheltenham Spa, a prosperous town since 1800, and also in Gloucester I believe.
'Parabola' who posts here has at least one, and will no doubt answer your query much better than I, but not until tomorrow I suspect.

Edwinson Green were indeed a very well respected provincial maker and did make guns for Mr. Watts of London Sporting Park.

I am fortunate to have a photocopy of what appears to be their Cheltenham shop’s order book from 1881 until they stopped making guns.

Frustratingly it does not always show serial numbers and many guns they made are not listed.

If you can let me have the serial number of your gun (by private message if you prefer) I can look to see if it is mentioned.

Richard Milner, who very kindly lent me his copy of the records so I could make my own copy, wrote an excellent article and digest of the records in the Journal of the Historical Breechloading Smallarms Association.

His article “The Gun and Rifle Ledgers of Edwinson C. Green” is to be found at Volume 3, No. 2 the December 2000 issue. Back numbers might be available from the H.B.S.A.

He sets out the serial numbers listed by year. Gunmaking for London Sporting Park seems to have commenced in 1906 and continued into 1913 with no later references appearing.

Richard comments “for more information on Mr. Watts see ‘Experts on Guns and Shooting’ by G.T. Teasdale-Buckle”.

That book has been re-printed, so may be accessible.
