is there any interest in having inserts for an 8 gauge that would accept a 12 gauge shell?

Yes, if one can expect a decent pattern and velocity. Will a 12 ga wad obturate adequately in an 8 ga tube?

I have been using 8 to 12 inserts for years and am very happy with them. I would say there is interest in such inserts.

I like my 10 to 12ga but I think I'd rather shoot my 8 with the correct shells. Both of my 8's weight too much to use as a 12.

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I have never had any interest in gauge reducing adapters of any ilk. I want the weight and handling characteristics of my guns to match the gauge and use. If I want to shoot 12 gauge shells I'll use a 12 gauge gun. If I were to ever desire an 8 gauge gun it would be to utilize 8 ga. loads.

For me it's the equivalent of using a 270 HP John Deere 8270R to run an 8 ft. Bush Hog mower. I just can't make sense of it.

I was asking because I plan on making about 3 sets, since 8 ga shells are difficult to come by. I may also make some inserts for 10ga to 12, 16 and even 20 ga. The inserts would only be chamber length
not full length tubes.

My eight gauge inserts are made to chamber length, 3 1/4" for most, and 4" for my 4" chamber Greener.

I had quite a number of 10/12 inserts at one time.
When I decided to sell they went like hot cakes.
This may influence your decision to build several sets.
