Hello all: I just acquired a Rottweil combination in 16 g over 7x57R with barrel selection on the left side. The gun is in beautiful condition but does not function. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I believe someone has been tinkering with the mechanism and there may be parts missing so a photo or link to a website would be helpful. Other markings are : Dynamit Noble 81 L and Rottweil D.B.G. M. I'll post a photo when I figure out how to do it.
All the best of the season to you and yours.

cr17, Of course, Rottweil and Dynamit Nobel are known brands, most often seen in ammunition. I recall having seen them on guns and telescopes as "house brands" manufactured by someone else. I really don't know about the specific guns but some guns that have a selector on the side are made with only one lock, used with both barrels, depending on the location of the selector. If one barrel is fired and the selector is moved to fire the other barrel, it won't fire unless the gun is re-cocked. This is not really a malfunction, but a design feature. I have no idea if this is your problem or not but is something to check. Mike

The text should read >>D.R.G.M.<<, which notes a petty patent. If you would forward the fotos to me, I would gladly post them.

Too, 7x57R especially in Austrian platforms, points to shorter tubes, like under 60cm. What is your tubeset length?

It could well be as you say. Interesting action and single trigger. And since it doesn't wear D.R.G.M. but rather D.B.G.M. „Deutsches Bundesgebrauchsmuster“ it would be post 1952. Any stamps on the underside of the tubeset? Serbus, Raimey rse

CV on this particular platform? My forte lies in the >>Golden Age of Gunning<<..... This is an unusual platform, maybe just a couple examples, and it may just take the aide of Frühauf in Suhl to get @ the core. Rottweil was not a maker, so that masks things a bit and complicates things even more. The clues lie with this last batch of fotos. I am working on the DRGM post 1952.. So, Nitro in München in Oktober, 1972 thru that Proof Facility with >>Made in Germany<< in English, so maybe for export? What is the tube steel type, Röchling? Serbus, Raimey rse

Raimey : I have to say my preference is the "Golden Age" as you say. I've acquired 5 drillings, all pre 1940's - or perhaps they've adopted me ? I've followed you on Double Guns for years and greatly appreciate your knowledge and willingness to share. Many thanks. I suppose the laws requiring gunmakers marking the guns "CV" changed drastically after WWII? In any case, this one is marked "Laufstahl". https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/gxnh...rlkey=zm7tldf6q5zbcu9cec5aks2k9&dl=0Take care

cr17, This gun is very mindful of the Heym Mod.22S (safety). The Munich proofhouse mark tends to support this. When Heym was in Muennerstadt they used the proofhouse at Mellrichstadt (?) which was under the Munich proofhouse and used the same stamp. If you can find operating instructions for the Heym Mod.22S maybe they will prove helpful. Regarding the statement that the barrel is marked "Laufstahl", note that the sattle(?) for the front claw mount base covers the first word in the barrel steel description. Mike
