Model 12 Shotgun Repair. Need a good one. A shooting buddy needs one repaired. Family hand down gun. The only shop that knew there way around 12s closed in April. No problem sending it out. Any of you guys have a suggestion?

Thanks

Years ago I sent my two barrel set model 12 set to an outfit called New Way or Nuway in Oklahoma, I think. They did a prompt and excellent job on my gun...Geo

Check with Art’s. They might be up for it. There was a time when Ahlman’s Custom Gun was a go-to for model 12s, but, that time has come and gone.

Best,

That was along time ago. Not anymore.

Jim Weigand was the best. He’s passed away.

Eubanks gunsmithing in Idaho is now the standard bearer. They are extremely busy and probably aren’t taking in too many jobs these day. Call em and see what they say. Eubanks L’s son now runs the shop…he’s nice young man.

If the model 12 has just been sitting, and there’s really no issues with it (trigger, timing, etc) it probably only needs a good strip and clean and it’ll be fine.

I second Roger Eubanks in Homedale Idaho. Definitely knows the Model 12 and can restore them to new condition. May take a while to get to it.

Unless your friend knows the gun had problems when his Dad stored it, I think the best move at this point is to simply give it a good cleaning like any other pump gun, and then shoot it. Then if it has any issues, come back here and describe the problem, and you will get better advice how to proceed.

At very least, check the bore of any gun that has been stored before shooting. I have an old Savage 20 ga. single shot that I leave in my garage. One day I took it out and dropped a shell in it to shoot a groundhog raiding my garden. Just as I was about to pull the trigger, I thought maybe I'd better check the bore. The barrel was totally plugged with a mud dauber wasp nest.

I see no reason to risk sending it out to a gunsmith who specializes in Model 12's, and probably wasting money that could be spent on shells, when in all likelihood there is nothing wrong with it. I've bought a number of old guns that looked like they hadn't been shot in quite a while, and never saw the need to send them to a gunsmith for a check-up.

A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.
