Thank you for posting again, Raimey, much appreciated! I would appreciate any insight or information from the markings on the barrels and action.

I must have mis-typed, Raimey. The A. Mulcaz is a combo, 8x57JRS x 20 gauge. It was supposedly changed from the original calibers or gauges into the current configuration sometime around 1990 and not sure the source of the seller's information on that. The forend wood doesn't appear to match the butt stock, so I assume that may have been part of the workover/rebuild.

The Crown over G(Geschoß-Solid Projectile) denotes the tube was proofed with a solid projectile


Crown over S(Schrot) denotes the tube was proofed with Shot.

Crown over U means it was inspected.

The Imperial Eagles coupled with the G or S note the preliminary proof effort & charge as well as 2nd pass & charge.

The K in a jagged circle or ratchet is the mark of the barrel maker & it is either a Kelber or Klett(Acorn Folk).

Too you can tell the tubes are from an earlier time when there wasn't confidence in the steel as each tube wears 2 Crown over Gs. So lads with rucksacks ferried rough bored tubes to the Proof Facility & had them tested before any additional work was based on the tube. Sort of a component by component test until faith was restored in the tube type.

The original barrels would have been about the same diameter. The 8X57JRSx20 gauge barrels would be different diameter on one or both sides. The original wood would not fit the combination barrels, so at least new forearm wood would need to be added. We can't tell from the photo if they kept the original barrels, made completely new barrels, or re-lined the original barrels to 8X57JRSX20 ga. If they used the old barrels or made completely new barrels and trashed the original barrel tubes, they could have used the original forearm iron with new wood fitting the new barrels. If they kept the original barrels for use, they could have kept the complete forearm to use with it and made a completely new forearm for the combination barrels.
