Watched the Kevin Costner 3 hour chapter one movie tonight. It is terrible!! But I was concentrated on the arms shown. Lots of period correct muzzle loaders. However, the US cavalry in the Gila Valley of Arizona in this era are equipped with Sharps Carbines. In addition, the women hiding in a tunnel during an Apache assault were able to breathe by hammering a SxS shotgun barrel to the surface to get air, which is clearly a breech loader barrel with lumps. 1859 Arizona and there is a breech loading shotgun out there? Plus there were number of Winchester rifles shown (in 1859?).
I was expecting a movie with a vast plot and beautiful cinematography ...There was neither and it was really really bad. It was boring not soaring, dark, twisted, abusive, with no character development except the perverted, 21st century models play Indian and Chinese women, and failed as a western, character study, history or even landscape photography. The pistols, rifles, numerous shotguns used were the only things interesting from a historical context. Tom Hanks would have at least gotten this right.
