The ebay link that Ted provided is not an "old", "original", long tang, round knob Superposed stock with original buttplate, in high condition which is what we would like to find. Good luck.

True enough, but, looking doesn’t hurt. A Superposed is a production gun. There are about 600 of them for sale on GI alone at any one time. There are used stocks floating around, a guy can keep his eyes open, and perhaps find something that can be fitted.

Restocking a 12 gauge Superposed doesn’t appear to make financial sense from this juncture. Several have pointed this out. There are also links to capable wood guys that could make it happen, but, were it me, I’d be willing to give the looking process a bit of time, first.

Best,
Ted

I agree with Ted. If you watch ebay for a few months a suitable old style superposed stock will show up at a reasonable price. Ideally one with a reasonably close serial number. One with an uncut stock may be harder to find. If you look at a stock with a pad watch lop. Most used stocks for sale are being replaced because of a very short lop.

When I had my talented gunsmith (now retired) restock my 1933 Midas 32" trap, he made a wonderful model stock from my old stock to use in his pantograph. I wanted to keep the model for future use, but he wouldn't give it up. Oh, well. All of my old Superposed have very acceptable wood, so I won't have use for the model stock any more.

2 of 3 restocked
One by Arts, the second by an un-named Missouri magician, the third is factory original

The stock in Bob Cash's picture above, made by the un-named Missouri Magician, looks very much like the work of a really good Missouri stock and checkering man who recently retired due to arthritis and other health issues. One give away was his refusal to use any stains when finishing his stocks. As recently as last year, he was still accepting a limited amount of work for a flat $25.00 an hour for shop time. I wouldn't blame anyone for not giving up the name of a craftsman who did quality gunstocking or checkering work that cheap.

Really scary to think you could rent a car and make a couple round trips driving your gun all the way to Missouri to avoid shipping loss or damage, and then it might get sent out anyway. And to think the same could happen with an engraver sending out your gun parts to be annealed prior to engraving, or for new case hardening or bluing after the work is done. But some gunsmiths farm-out work quite often.

Nice stuff, Bob. What did you do with the original stocks on the guns, you might have a buyer here.

Best,
Ted

Hard to find English Feathercrotch like on the second gun that matches that well on both sides.
