So the new barrel is engraved Griffin and Howe and is chambered in 220 swift and has the SA 5-37 markings at the muzzle? Or did I miss something? A re-chambered 1922 barrel?

Thanks,
John

I've posted pics clearly showing the serial number so that going forward it will be a known "put together" rifle. The stock channel will be marked as well. I know that I won't be it's last owner and whomever does (way down the road) needs to know that.

So, perforce the barrel started out as an Armory .22 rimfire barrel. Very nifty, but take into account the tight bore and 1-16" twist when loading .220 Swift ammo for it. Personally I would've opted for one of the other two barrels, or the original NRA Sporter barrel, but that's just me.

I received my finished project today and I'm very happy with the finished product. Hard to imagine that 6 months ago it all began at a garage sale...

Wonderful, and spooky. I've just been peering at the Griffin & Howe re-worked Model 1922 Mk1I sporter I acquired a short while ago, and they're definitely of a stylistic feather. Widow's peak buttplate, horn forend cap, some of the stock details...

That's quite nice.

Thanks. Griffin & Howe, Sedgley, Jaeger, etc. custom rifles just appeal to me. I'm very happy with the stock toe repair that was done... hard to see where it was chipped. I also picked up a Paul Jaeger custom pre-war Winchester Model 70 in .220 swift as well. It was a very good weekend.

Oh, that's elegant. Love to see that it appears to still have its mid-barrel iron sight.

A man with a pair of .220 Swifts must, by deduction, (a) Own a barrel factory, and 2. Be in the grips of a fervid and abiding loathing of mid-century prairie dogs and marmots. Back when rodents spoke in mid-Atlantic accents.

My plan is to install a Unertl Vulture 10X w/ early Redfield Jr. rings on the Jaeger... I enjoy .220 Swifts and .22 Hornets too, just because. smile
