I have a F25 that is a beautiful gun but I don't shoot it enough because the stock was cut down to 13.5 LOP. MFG approximately 1917 in Birmingham. Started looking at a D grade and on the surface I can't see what makes it a D grade and what makes the F grade. I believe my F grade is based on the Facile Princeps box lock design but not sure of the D grade. I'm sure there is a simply answer but I need to learn it.
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

I'm pretty sure the D is built on the Anson & Deeley patent. Some A&D guns are filed up to have the appearance of an FP action. You'll see the difference in the cocking system.

Hammergun is certainly correct that the D guns are built on the Anson & Deeley action, and the F guns on the Facile Princeps action. I've only owned a couple Greeners and neither very recently. However, for some reason my mind wants to associate the side safety to the F guns and the tang safety to the D guns.

I don't know if they are as common as on a Deeley action but at least one FP was made with the top tang safe.

Are the “F” guns the Trap model?

And I have an A&D with a side safety. The F guns are "Facile Princeps" designs. Greeners workaround to avoid royalties for using the Anson & Deeley patent. I believe trap guns could be ordered in either design.

Basically all F grades are the same gun, the grades would be difference in the filing up , beads etc. engraving and wood . In an advert Greener states " D 13 " Improved A & D action, plainly finished .

Greener kept their model designations refreshingly simple. F are Facile Princeps guns, D are Anson and Deeley and E are Empire guns. FH, DH and EH are the ejector models. The last 2 digits are the then current price in Guineas. So the F25 (late 1930’s) shown above would have been a F16 in 1904. Greener preferred their own safety but would build guns to order with the top safe, and often did,
