I bought this shotgun at an estate sale and have been on a quest to learn more about it ever since. I suspect that it is a very early Simson, possibly proofed in February of 2001. I also suspect that it was for export due to lack of makers mark and sling swivels. The serial number appears to be B4. There is also the number 4 stamped on the left side of the barrel lug that is not shown in photos. It has a minimal 12 ga bore and is choked Skeet-Skeet. The cocking indicators are on the top of the action. The barrels each have Nitro stamped laterally near barrel flat. I would love to know if I am correct or find out any information on this shotgun.
OK, So after typing all of this, I can't figure out how to post photos. wyliecanis@cox.net Maybe this will work
Beautiful shotgun. I especially like the engraving. Coming from an estate sale I expect you got a good deal on it. Thank you for sharing it with us. I’m sure members here can provide more info.
While I can see only one photo and no proof narks, it reminds me of a pre-Nazi takeover of Simson, gun. If so I would expect to find a 1938-1940 proof mark. Mike
You have to click on the photo to see more photos. YouTube was the only way I could figure out to share photos. You can pause the slides to get a longer look. The gun has early Suhl proof marks. Is the 2-01 the proof date and does that mean Feb. 1901?
