A Great Find by Mr. Neuberger. It has all of the hallmarks of a Best Boxlock of a Gesteck from Sauer/Suhl and completed in Praha. And has passed various proof tests about 1/2 dozen times. Valued @ the price of a Belgian Boxlock. A Fantastic Frantisek Faukner.

WOW! What a beauty.

I believe it was in 1893 when via an agreement that Krupp allowed Sauer to couple Krupp's 3 Ringe trademark on tubes of Weapons Grade Steel. So, by 1913 this was still a relatively new tube type and warranted @ least 20 additional Reich Marks on a scattergun. Krupp Stahl NIROSTA(Nitro Stahl - Nichtrostendender) was filed by Krupp on Oktober 17th, 1912 and a trademark in 1922-NIROSTA(NIchtROstendenSTAhl). There are 3 Ringe examples coupled with the term Nirosta.

has in its june 6 auction under lot 38 this Faukner 16 bore gun.
There is no Faukner catalogue at hand but a J. Nowotny catalogue before 1918 in German
and one after 1918 in Czech.
The Faukner gun is identical to the Nowotny gun "Second to None".
The Nowotny catalogue tells "Erstklassiges Prager Erzeugnis, gleichwertig mit
Englischer Purdey -Flinte in der Preislage von K 2000".
As usual then a Purdey as benchmark re quality and pricing.

The Faukner serial nr is 3163,its first proof from Prague in 1913,
followed by marks from 1947, 1973 and 1990.
Despite the Nowotny story of Prague-manufacture I smell
Suhl substance.
Suhl barrel preproof, probably engraved, hifi-stocked and finished in Prague.
Typical Czech elements/features the pointed/linear backwards extension of the
sideplate and the roll-up-stock-sling-swivel .
No barrel measurements available, without view/check I would have
concern on the barrel quality.
Anyhow, at the given price range at least a beauty of a wallhanger
...
May be a Suhl guru could decipher which Suhl company built it
and supplied it "in the white" to Faukner.

Yeah, I no not why the Bohemians had to measure value in units of the wares from the Little British Isles.

I wouldn't mind seeing a dissertation on the evolution of the Bohemian sideplates.

Considering the steel type, and even though some metal has been removed, I would not fret a bit about tube steel thickness.

I was searching for a specific sideplate by Adolf Machac of Brno, I think. But no joy as of yet.

Frantisek Faukner a Spoločnosť s ručením obmedzeným v Praze, why is the et al added or LLC? Faukner moved to Praze in 1909 or had he expired or turned the reins of the concern over to Jan by then? Or was it Jan that moved from Kolin to Praze in 1909?
