Would you happen to have in your bag of tricks a pic of "The Proof Plate of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers" beginning in 1680 as found in Major H.B.C. Pollard's "A History of Firearms" published in London in 1926? It is interesting as to the number of builder/maker marks. Would any Birminghham or any 0ther guild/group have such a plate to assist in identifying builder/maker marks?
Kind Regards,
Raimey rse

You mean these fellas? This 'bag of tricks' is all from under David Trevallion's workbench, and I'll get Wellington on it

Without reservation, that is correct. Where would the proof plate reside today?

Raimey, By Proof Plate do you mean the plate that has all of the proof stamps stamped into it? I think that there is a photo of one in the first Holland book "The Shooting Field" 1985.p83. cc.

Yes that would be it. By chance, who is "the keeper of the plate"? Is London the only gunmaking center that has such a plate?

Raimey, I think you will find that both the London and the Birmigham Proof Houses would have a "Proof-Plate". Douglas Tate would poss. be "In the Know" on this subject, also Vic Ventors, They can both be contacted thru' SSM, Camden Me. cc
