I can’t recall if our late Bill Wise had any such contraptions. Perhaps it is a modification for a handicapped shooter. If so I hope it worked well for him. If I had to do it I’d use a large rare earth magnet to hold things. No holes required and using a second one should repel the first one to break its hold. I used one that generated 50+ pounds of holding. Impressive and darn near impossible to remove by pulling or even pushing it sideways.

I’ve seen a few French guns, near or at the end of usefulness, that had a similar hole to mount them to a pintle on a blind or a duck boat. To a one, they showed signs of being fed loads far above what they were designed for. I figured war time use or hunting for markets of some sort.
Best, Ted

I've waited to post this so as not to sidetrack Jon's thread. It seems that responses have slowed now so I'll ask for some help from the brain trust on my own "why" that I've wondered about for 25+ years. I bought this 16ga Stevens 530A in a small town gun shop for a combination truck gun/loaner. It's served its purpose well but I've always wondered why the pattern of holes in the forend, trigger guard and front trigger. The forend has six pairs of holes which line up with the bottom hole in the trigger guard. I have a theory but I don't want to prejudice fresh thinking on their purpose. Thoughts?

I'll bite. Something like fishing line was used to make a triggering mechanism for a set gun. Is there anything behind the trigger? Maybe on the guard?

Is there anything behind the trigger? Maybe on the guard? Nothing behind the trigger or on the back of the trigger guard including additional holes.

Swivel mount for jacklighting deer. Mount is on bumper of truck with gun direction and trigger pull manipulated with a pulley system. Gil
