It will more than likely have to be fitted to the gun, John. My experience is the Remington model 17s about nine out of ten times, the barrel will interchange between guns. The pre 855,000 Ithaca 37s almost never interchange. A gunsmith can often get it on, but, it is not 100%.

The people who run Ithaca, now, will bore the threads out of the receiver of an old gun, and install an insert, machined to take one of their new barrels. I don’t know if they will do a 16 gauge, however. I wouldn’t recommend it anyway, as the barrels they produce today are heavier, and cut for choke tubes and steel shot.

Best of luck.

100% chance a barrel will need to be fit for that gun. Not impossible or even that expensive for a person who knows how to do it. Watch EBay, barrels that fit your criteria do pop up and can be ad for reasonable money. But you will then need to pay to have it fit to your gun. Or watch GunBroker and buy another Model 37. They sometimes popup and sell for reasonable money there. Always good to buy another gun.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/295525568650 16 ga. solid rib.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/115668960749 16 ga. Vent rib, can not see serial number. Ask seller for it. Under 800K will require fitting, over wont fit.

Les Hovencamp of Ithaca, NY, Diamond Gunsmithing can fit the old barrel without the shenanigans employeed by the current Ithaca Gun Co. Les was the former head smith at Ithaca when M37s were made in Ithaca. I found a 1939 20 ga. barrel that he fitted to a mid to late 1960's gun without alteration or re-bluing of the guns action which is the method done by the new company. Gil
