What are we looking at as to gauge and caliber?

It is given as 9,3X72R and 16(70mm) X 16(70mm), but I have reservations about the 70mm.

Too, it is post 1912 with those >>Nitro<< stamps on the sides of the tubes. Probably dates from 1912 - 1919 or thereabouts.

I do wish we had fotos of the marks but it is a Roux action, underlever, and then the top lever is the selector. But the hammers are the white elephant in the room. I just haven't seen such prior.

Pretty they ain’t, even compared to “Purdey’s horrible hammers”.
They would seem, however, to combine very low profiles with greatly decreased risk of stress fracture.

I wonder if the hammers are intended to mediate for a disability. Mike

I'd definitely vote for the hammers being for a hunter challenged in some shape, form or fashion.

interesting, the right hammer has a very industrial appearing spur that i assume is the striker for the rifle barrel....would the selector move that into position so that the hammer would reach it before the shotgun firing pin?

That arrangement for the right hammer is somewhat of a typical arrangement to ignite the lower tube. Usually a block type selection for the selection feature.
