Just discovered another unique (odd?) feature on this O/U. The front trigger firing the Under barrel is articulated as in it is two piece and hinged so as to allow it to be pushed forward. The pivot pin is in the trigger blade itself? No idea as to the function. Could it be to keep the front trigger from biting the finger on recoil when using the back trigger? Any thoughts? I will post a photo for examination.

All of my Beretta SxS guns have an articulated front trigger. I've always thought that the purpose of it was just as you described. I've never had a problem with recoil hurting my finger, but I guess some do.

Congrats on a nice gun!

Regarding articulated triggers, that is the purpose. I don't have any SxS's with them but avoid the recoil problem by setting my grip for the back trigger and simply reaching forward to the front one when needed. It has worked very well for me on my straight gripped guns.

I can see that now. When first posted, I looked at the pictures in great detail and pictures 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 all resemble a side by side action. I have similar Berettas and Merkels from the period, and they don't seem to have the pronounced action balls with the vertical rise this gun exhibits. There is not a picture of the breech end of the barrels, so I didn't pick up on the orientation.
