I predict that the longer we here in the U.S. go without a regular supply of 2 1/2" cartridges that people will forgo the need to maintain British Proof and lengthen the chambers in their English guns. After all the US has no proof laws. As long as wall thickness is maintained to a proper safe level then there should be no problem. It seems every time I sold an English gun one of the very first questions were, "Is it still in proof".

After purchasing a 12 bore damascus hammergun originally proofed at .729 that had been hogged out to .783 during its years in the colonies, is it in proof is always my first question. I am not averse to buying an out of proof gun, but the price I am willing to pay for it is dramatically less than an unaltered in proof gun.

I believe reloading is part of the cost of owning vintage guns.
While factory 2.5 inch is not commonly available, sufficient components exist to properly load for vintage 2.5 inch guns. While I prefer harder to find Federal paper hulls cut down to 2.5 inches, they can be found, still more plastic hulls of most types can also be found and with minor efforts I have piled up a sizable diverse collection of 12ga hulls for my reloading. Wads are no real problem compared to a few months back.
Roll crimping is not difficult and with some practice is a real pleasure.
I have found many 2.75 inch 1 ounce and 1 1/8 ounce loads fit in hulls cut down to 2.5 then roll crimped.

William: quoting Miller is evidence that I respected his knowledge and credibility, in his area of expertise, which included a recognition of the relationship between volume and pressure in reference to forcing cone lengthening. And in the thread you linked, I said that I was mistaken. He is no longer able to clarify his statement(s) regarding slavery, and it is unfortunate, in your blind hatred, that you can't let his words, and him, rest in peace. I'm most willing to do so. Drew Hause Miller did in fact clarify his statements regarding slavery NUMEROUS TIMES Preacher. And you in your blind hatred, persisted in attempting to twist his words by claiming he believed in something he never once said. I think he would not lose a moment of eternal rest knowing that I am reminding you how unfairly you treated a good man. And if you in fact really "respected his knowledge and credibility, in his area of expertise" (as a machinist), then you would have understood and accepted his clear explanation about why lengthening the chambers of vintage shotguns would not result in increased wall thickness at the end of the re-cut chamber. He even provided pictures with notations to illustrate the obvious. I explained it to you in detail as well. Both of us did for several days. The fact is that you persisted in believing something that even a simpleton could see was impossible, and even paid Brileys to lengthen a chamber so you could measure it yourself. So much for respecting Miller and "knowledge and credibility, in his area of expertise". That is ample proof of the deceptive nature of your reply... Preacher.
