I recently acquired about 1000 12ga cheddite primmed hulls, I believe they have chedditte 209 primers. What would be a laundry list of items I would need to hand roll loads, as I have an older Lee hand loader so I won’t need a press. I was thinking of using red dot powder with fiber wads and making some low pressure loads. Are there any other powders that would be better? Any help would be great as I’m just starting out on this adventure.

Can not say about the primers, but when reloading was not that sophisticated as in the early 70s I used a Lee loader, red dot and fiber wads. Worked well. Back then I do not think we worried about pressures. Later when we started to use plastic wads, if it fit in the shell with the amount of shot and powder it was fine.

American Select is a good one. Similar to red dot.

Are you considering 2.75 or 2.5"? Go to Alliant's reloading center for tested recipes for Cheddite hulls and Cheddite Primers. Alliant has recipes for 2.75" using RD and AS. Hodgdon's reloading center has a recipe for 2.5" using the Cheddite hull and primer using Universal. BP has a book dedicated to Cheddite hulls and primers. You have a motherload of primed hulls which most likely are primed by Cheddite. Good luck. Gil

There are very acceptable loads using American Select and Green Dot for those hulls and primers that keep pressure under 7000 psi and still get you 1200 fps of velocity. I can post a couple when I get back to my computer.----Matt

Agree with GLS about Cheddite Manual from BPI. All of its recipes use Cheddite hulls and primers, various powders, some use fiber wads, some low pressure loads.

Generally speaking,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the slower and bulkier the powder, the lower the pressure
Green dot would probably be a better choice

I promised to post a few loads last week. Sorry for the delay. I was out of town and then started a new job this week. All three of these are published loads from Alliant and Hodgdon websites. I've used all three.

Gauge: 20ga
Shot: 7/8oz
Hull: Cheddite
Wad: RXP20
Powder: 21.3 Grains Longshot
Primer: Ched. 209
Pressure: 7800 PSI
Velocity: 1300 FPS

Gauge: 12ga
Shot: 1 oz
Hull: Cheddite
Wad: 12S0 (CB2100)
Powder: 20 Grains American Select
Primer: Ched. 209
Pressure: 6200 PSI
Velocity: 1200 FPS

Gauge: 12ga
Shot: 1 oz
Hull: Cheddite
Wad: 12S0 (CB2100)
Powder: 21.5 Grains Green Dot
Primer: Ched. 209
Pressure: 6900 PSI
Velocity: 1200 FPS

Hope these help. ---Matt
