I’ve seen that cheekpiece attributed to SR Griffin. Checkering looks consistent with his work also. Check to see if the checkering goes all the way to the metal on the rear of the trigger guard tang.

It doesn't go to the metal.

My hunch is this rifle was born in Ohio. Here's one it has a family resemblance to.

A FFL friend of mine took it in on consignment and thought It would be something I’d like.

The subject rifle does not have a Hoffman front sight ramp so I doubt it is a Hoffman.

I'm guessing it to be an early John Dubiel rifle. The only markings on the barrel besides the serial number are 37 over 233. If the serial on the barrel is correct, the rifle was originally a 1919 National Match rifle.

I bought an unmarked Springfield from Petrov he attributed to SR Griffin with that cheekpiece and also had Kornbrath engraved G&H #34 with the same one. It’s different enough I don’t think a lot of stockers were executing that bag shaped bead.

Would love to know who it was, if not SRG
