Thanks, Raimey.
I do not know of DeRosa, or anything about his credibility.

I enjoy his articles in Project Upland magazine and his podcasts.

No new information of value to most here.
Also, perhaps a little misinformation. Opinions wanted.
The author states categorically that advent of semis heralded the end of SxS. My thinking is it was more the advent of cheap reliable pumps like the M12, M37, M31 and later the 870 after the war that really nailed the coffin shut. The SxS heyday was over by the start of WWII and I don't think semis were ubiquitous at that point.
So, if I'm correct, the article is incredibly basic AND spreads misinformation. What will be in his next one? Get rid of those Damascus barreled guns....they blow up!
The world cries out for such: he is needed & needed badly- the man who can carry a message to Garcia

I think the Browning A5 or the humpback Remington started to arrive on the scene the 1930s but it really wasn't until the 1950s when the Remington 58/(later 1100 in 1963?) and then the Winchester 1400 in 1964???? So apparently it was the 1950s & 1960s when the autoloader shotgun took hold??

An article meant for the less initiated and unknowledgeable. Readers have to start somewhere, the already converted will look elsewhere for data that will meet their appetites.
Concur with Canvasback that it is an imperfect history in that cheaper and greater firepower from pumps then semi-automatics drove side by sides from dominance.
That said, I still like Project Upland, as I like Upland Journal and Shooting Sportsman, and I already miss Doublegun Journal.

Interesting about the money shoots engaging the Remington 1906 and afterwards but I do not think the average hunter followed the Pigeon Ring weapons and that maybe before the Great Depression and more so before WWII that the Shotgun autoloader gained traction??
