We only saw 3 bulls and 2 cows in 14 days. Also saw 2 wolves at around 800 yds. We had wolves howling day and night the whole trip no matter where we were. Didn't see many tracks at all and we usually do. I don't want to say what river as it already gets too much pressure. We had 16 rafts pass us in two days. Last November my brother and I went to Kodiak for sea ducks. Had a blast and got quite a few Harlequins. I have 7 in my freezer that I need to get to the taxidermist. I like moose meat more than deer.

Where we hunted wolf limit was 5. Hunting license only, no tags needed.

Mike, that sounds fun. I miss Alaska moose hunting a lot. Fourteen days is a long trip. How did you care for meat taken early in the hunt ? Hope you had a buddy on floats. Had the weather been cold enough to kill the mosquitos, white socks, and flies ?

Daryl no mosquitos but lots of white socks. We always hang the meat, buddy put citric acid and pepper on his and we bag once the bugs are thawed out enough to come out. We had cool weather with 4 night of below freezing so meat was good.

Too, I learned it is better to hunt Moose on a float trip rather than being dropped off by a Bush Plane on a Mountain top. The Moose are eating the Willow trees & will be found near the wetlands. So if you shoot one after being dropped off on a hillside, you have to pack the Moose meat, and head if you want it, back up the mountainside to catch your $400 or $900 Bush Plane Pickup.
Yes, bugs were not bad @ all. I didn't wear a net nor use one whilst I was sleeping.
We saw tonnes and tonnes of Bear, Moose & Wolf tracks, along with the occasional Wolverine track, but we only saw a couple Bear. Some of the Moose tracks appeared to weigh around 1800 lbs??

I don't want to say what river as it already gets too much pressure. We had 16 rafts pass us in two days. Last November my brother and I went to Kodiak for sea ducks. Had a blast and got quite a few Harlequins. Well, you didn't see us as we didn't even hear a Commercial Airplane until Day 3. We didn't see anyone till about Day 5 or 6 when the Alaskan State Trooper / Game Warden dropped in on us via a Float Plane to check on us. We hit a nasty log jam around Day 3 which was 600' in width & 1/2 long. Some Female in a Jet Boat up about 2 weeks prior & fortunately had cut a path thru it. Just amazing the force of Nature & especially of Ice, which will cut a whale of a path. Serbus, Raimey rse

Mike;
What a wonderful warm appearing tent you had set up at the camp.
