Did Remingtom use a different size frame on 12 and 16 bore guns?.. I have had several of each over the years and always thought they were the same size. However a gentleman has 2 small frame 16 bores, one Model 1894 and one Model 1900, in the "For Sale" forum.. MDC

I can't say, but the frame on my FE 12ga, won't accept a feild grade or CEO butt stock because the frame of the FE that I have is nearly 1/4 inch taller than a standard 12ga 1894 frame...I found that out the hard way...I bought a 12ga CEO buttstock, only to find out that it wouldn't fit the 12ga FE, but does fit any standard 1894 frame...I've had to re-stock the FE, and hunt up another straight grip tang just so I could use the CEO stock on some future Frankenstien...

MD, Remington made 2 commonly produced sizes. Easy measurement to check is the distance between the centers of the firing pin holes. 1" for Small frame. As I understand it is that both 12 and 16 were made on both size frames. 12's could be had on small frames, 16's on large. Soon, the knowledgeable Remington guys will jump in and have a the particulars on the Rems. Randy

The 16ga frame size is easy to see with the triggerplate extending almost all the way to the reciever sides. I have a nice 12ga on 16ga frame and it is extra nice. In the first pic the 12ga on sixteen gauge frame is on left(I lined up the top surface of the actions so look at the bottom to see the amount of difference). There is a shadow on the 12ga frame so you have to look close to see there is a lot more material between the edge of the floorplate and side of the action. The second pics barrel flats are:Left side 12ga B grade 12ga gun 12ga frame,Right side A grade 12ga gun 16ga frame. There was a 16ga gun with 12ga frame as well.
