I just read that the Goex plant is to close permanently at the end of the year. If no one buys it the only supply of BP will be from foreign sources so good luck to all who load BP shells.

Doesn’t Uncle Sam have a surprisingly large annual requirement for black powder for use in initiators in artillery shells?

I never bought 4F until I found an almost full one pound can at a gun show a couple years ago for only $5.00. A pound of pan powder will last a very long time, even for an active flintlock shooter.

Prior to that, I just would grind my own 3F or 2F in a make-shift non-sparking mortar and pestle consisting of a ceramic ashtray and a plastic screwdriver handle. I just grind a small amount at a time, in case it should go off for some reason. I never had a problem.

A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.

When I competed with roundball rifles in NMLRA competition I would sift my black powder that I would use before a match, for my cross-sticks rifle and my lightweight benchrest rifle. That got rid of the fines and the extra large, coarse particles. I saved them, of course. You would be amazed at the amount of fines I would get out of FFg. I had three sieves that I used to do this procedure, the sifting. I would only do a small amount at the time, then can it and seal it up. This was to lower the chances of an unexpected ignition while I was sifting and sorting. The difference between group sizes with my rifles was pretty impressive when I used sifted powder, as opposed to straight out of the can.

I'll look and see. I may have a can of FFFFg. If I do I have absolutely no use for it, and I'll let you know, Keith (67galaxie).

I just looked and I do have a pound can of FFFFg Goex, Keith. If you can conceive of a way to get it to you without breaking the bank it's yours. I've never owned a flintlock gun, only percussion, and don't even remember how I came by it. Likely a prize in a shooting match, or something like that.
