Does anyone have black powder load data for 12 gauge slugs? What is the maximum safe energy that can be obtained with black powder?

Modern gun? 2&3/4" chambers? Some vintage British 12 bore rifles shot very heavy bp loads.

one ounce round ball, fiber wads, 3 drams of 2f might be a good place to start...

google it for more precise load data...

track of the wolf could be a source of componets...

this aint rocket science...

Thinking outside the box here (I know, not always a great idea which is why I'm asking questions before doing anything), I used to shoot Sauvestre ammunition from a smooth bore that had delivered great results at 150m. It was a .45 projectile with a high sectional density. If I made a mold similar to that, would anything prevent me from using a subcaliber sabot round with black powder?

Ballistic products has a number of component slugs, I believer Lee and Lyman have slug molds. Check the Lyman "Blackpowder Handbook" for data, Sorry haven't found y copy since the move.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

In the 1911-12 Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. catalog under the NEW CLUB (their black powder shells) they offer 10-, 12-, 16- & 20-gauge Single Ball loads. The 12-gauge was a 1 ounce lead ball pushed by 3 1/4 drams of powder.

Would loading a conical slug present any more challenges than using a round ball?
