Gentlemen,
Maybe we need to start a study or guide that references Top Rib Patterns. There are scads of American SxS's with trade names or no markings at all. Top rib patterns were unique or proprietary among most of the Makers. An identification sticky? Any interest?

John, it is such a very big, far ranging topic, but interesting. Do you have an area where you would like to start ?

I vote for an alphabetical listing, with the hdwe store guns as a subset of their manufacturer. If different by grade, model etc., they stay within the maker. I love taxonomics.
Out there doing it best I can.

Daryl,
I think we should start out covering the American doubles(and singles) as those are the ones that offer the fewest clues. I am not sure what order to gather data or the best format for presentation. I have sizable picture files that have rib pictures of many of the American Makers. Drew's work on the Damascus patterns also has detailed views of the top ribs. My OCD (CDO, alphabetical as it should be) makes me a stickler on detail differences but my presentation skills are nonexistent. I am still working so time for research is very limited.
Any suggestions?
John
