Can't help on the wood finish, I always start from scratch.
For cleaning the metal work, I use dishwasher powder. Place all the components in a good sized saucepan, add hot water to just cover and about 50 ml of dishwasher powder, the cheaper generic type works just fine. Bring to the boil and let simmer for 5-10 minutes. Rinse well, blow out all the pin holes and place to dry in the kitchen oven set at about 90 deg C for about 10-20 mins. Brush off the rust and remaning dirt with a soft brass brush or Dremel taking care to not damage any remaining colour hardening.
Oil and you are done.
If you get access to a ultrasonic cleaner, DO NOT use the liquid often supplied to aid the cleaning of jewellery etc. Some of these solutions strip off colour hardening as quick as look at them!
