This gun is advertised as 12 ga 70 mm but barrels are marked cal 18. Breech end of these Damascus barrels look super thin. I guess if they only opened the chambers one could chamber sleeve( or just drop in gauge mate 12-20) to 20 ga and shoot away.

Cal 18.1/18.2(mm)(Belgian) is the diameter of the pattern welded tubes as finished or similar. I doubt original chambers of 70mm, but it is possible now? It wears both of the Sauer Quality Crowns so it was a best quality & was verified / checked @ the Sauer range.

Thanks. Thought gun was interesting but didnt like the caliber mark and thought 70mm was questionable for a 1890s or earlier gun. Would look really nice after cleaned up. We shall see soon.

Transitional mechanism very similar to the Manhattan that has the mainspring mounted on the lockplate, alone, if I remember correctly. The inverted L pin configuration gives it away. On the standing breech is a plate that houses a long thin spring that keeps the firing pins forward, if again memory serves me.

I'll look.....

I have one very similar. Dates to 1895. Getting a new stock this winter. Very nicely made gun. Currently 6 pounds 5 ounces and a very dainty action for a 12 ga.

Canvas-back:

The subject Sauer would be say 10 years younger than yours according to the following composed Sauer serial nummmer list for Nr. 27469:

Too, I wanted to stumble thru the marks on the underside of the pattern welded tubes, which are typical for the period.

On the underside of the left tube from top to botton:

Sauer Imperial Eagle

Wildmann with a Staff

CAL: 18.2

SE219R could be 2 or three independent stamps

Script lowercase g(I think)

Script K

Script H

Along with a couple of Gothic or Fraktur Js.

Interesting K, S and GD on the flat. Typical lowercase g on the lower rib(maybe 2?).

Repeated on the underside of the right tube along with an encircled Gothic R, which I have seen many, many times on German finished Belgian pattern welded tubes.
